I. Program Overview

The Wenzhou-Kean University Honors Program is a distinguished platform designed for undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and a commitment to scholarly excellence. Guided by the philosophy of “tailoring diverse pathways for diverse students,” the program draws on the best practices of honors education at world-class universities. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, research innovation, international exchange, leadership practice, and industry internships, the program aims to cultivate globally competitive talents with critical thinking, creativity, international competence, and leadership acumen.

 

II. Program Features

Honors Courses

  • Students are required to complete at least six honors courses (including two in their major and four in general education). These courses emphasize inquiry-based teaching and interdisciplinary integration, fostering transferable, comprehensive skills.
  • Complete additional recommended general education and international competency courses (relevant course notifications will be issued by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs each academic year).

Research Training Throughout the Program

  • Each student will be assigned a research mentor to support original research projects, with dedicated research funding provided.
  • Students are encouraged to present their work at international academic conferences; outstanding participants may receive travel subsidies.
  • Completion of an Honors Thesis and participation in the Honors Research Exhibition are required.

International Exchange and Internships

  • Opportunities for research visits, semester exchanges, and international conferences at world-leading universities.
  • Actively establish strategic internship partnerships with renowned companies and institutions, offering industry mentors and a cumulative internship of at least eight weeks.

Leadership and Career Development

  • Systematic leadership training and practical tasks, including at least four training sessions and four core organizational activities.
  • Career planning, job-seeking skills training, and one-on-one mentoring from industry professionals.

 

III. Graduation Requirements and Honors

Students who complete all program requirements—including honors courses, research projects and presentations, leadership practice and internships, and thesis defense—with a cumulative GPA of ≥3.50 will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Wenzhou-Kean University Honors Program. Outstanding achievements will be recommended to prestigious domestic and international universities or enterprises.

 

IV. Withdrawal Mechanism

The Honors Program operates on a rolling withdrawal basis. Students must withdraw under the following circumstances:

  • Cumulative GPA falls below 3.50 for two consecutive semesters;
  • Academic misconduct (Level 2 or above);
  • Receipt of a disciplinary probation or higher sanction from the university;
  • Voluntary withdrawal.
