One-on-one Tutoring

The primary mission of the English Language Center is to provide individualized support for students in English language proficiency and academic skills development. ELC Supplemental Instructors work with students in one-on-one tutoring in the areas of

  • Grammar and usage
  • Essay development
  • Speaking
  • Sentence structure
  • Pronunciation
  • MLA/APA formatting
  • Presentation skills
  • General academic skills

Workshops

The English Language Center offers workshops enhancing both language and academic skills. Attendance from students in the workshops is high, with an average of 25 to 30 students. Topics for workshops vary based on needs of students and courses.

English Corner

The English Corner is one of the joint efforts of the ESL department and the ELC to give students increased opportunities to speak English in a more natural, friendly atmosphere. It’s a place where students can come to speak English and engage in a variety of activities in English with less pressure than the classroom. Activities are organized by faculty of the ESL Department and staff of the ELC.

Walk-in hours: 18:30 – 20:00, Wednesday

Venue: B302a, General Education Hall

Note: Hours subject to change in exceptional circumstances such as public holidays.

Current learning resources are grouped into 6 sections: Vocabulary, Listening, Speaking & pronunciation, Reading, Writing, and Others. Recent additions to the resource list include the following:
