Introduction:

Festival is an important section of daily life, the basic strategy of national cultural governance, and the symbolic boundary of cultural community to maintain identity, continuity and substance. However, since the extension of the capitalist world system, globalization and consumer society have become the basic mechanism of cultural production. The festivals of the eastern and western societies have been mixed and influenced with each other, presenting the new era of cultural invention or cultural creation. We try to “look down” and observe the spread, misplacement, controversy and conflict of Spring Festival, Christmas and other grass roots festival from the East and West. Those festivals as examples to explore the cultural creation in globalization and the consumer society. In the current struggle of globalization and anti-globalization, the cultural creation of grass roots has a unique social poetic significance under the discourse of “nostalgia” which resists consumer society from elite perspective.
