How to be a vlogger in new media
On April 20, 2021, Ke Lele, a famous vlogger on Chinese new media, shared her life and career experiences as a KOL (key opinion leader), travel vlogger, baker, and bilingual freelancer with WKU students.
At the beginning, Professor John Chua from College of Liberal Arts introduced the lecturer. Ms. Ke first showed the students a video which she received more than 30 million viewers and 20 likes on the internet, then asked the theme question: What is a travel writer/blogger/vlogger? She answered the question by sharing her exciting stories of world travel with a great deal of fascinating photos and videos.

And more stories about her volunteer teaching in Indonesia, traveling in Xinjiang, Dubai, the Arctic Ocean, France, Korea, Finland, Venice etc.
Ke was previously a tourism management major who spent one year as an exchange student in the United Stated where she met her former-pilot “American mother” and travelled around on weekends. After graduation, she quit her job as a public servant and devoted herself to a career of travelling with the seed money she made as a part-time baker.
When asked about how to be a tourism vlogger, Ke Lele mentioned some key ideas: your interest, your talent, your communication, learning and creative abilities. She also invited students to join her future trip to drive from Lijiang, Kunming to Wenzhou, Zhejiang.
By the end of the lecture, Ke gave some tips on how to be a vlogger and how to attract more followers. The fundamental and most important thing, she suggested, would be to keep producing high-quality content, along with other techniques such as being familiar with different online platform systems, imitating popular vloggers, and increasing networking etc.
“Life is a short trip; your dream is a long journey.” ——Ke Lele
